Tassajara Veterinary Clinic strives to be the one Danville veterinary clinic you rely on throughout the life of your pet. Our goal is to make sure your pet lives a happy and healthy life, and we achieve that easiest through preventative care. We believe strongly that regular wellness exams are the key to diagnosing and treating serious diseases early, as well as the best way to make sure small medical matters don’t turn into larger ones. Our wellness care begins with the first few weeks of your pet’s life, and will continue through all its days.

Wellness Care in Danville Veterinary Hospital

Your pet’s first visit to our office will be while it’s still a kitten or puppy. We advise you to schedule your pet’s first exam very soon after it arrives in your home. Puppies and kittens usually come in for booster vaccines every 3 weeks until they are about 4 months old. Pets grow to the equivalent of teenagers in just 12 short months, so you can imagine the changes in your pet’s body between every visit. During these visits we’ll check your pet’s general health, look for parasites and inspect its teeth and gums. WE ask about behavior problems and help you to manage them before they get out of hand. We’ll also schedule and perform spaying or neutering your pet at around six months of age. At that time we assess whether all of the baby teeth are gone and all of the adult teeth are present. During the anesthesia for spaying or neutering, we can intervene to remove persistent puppy or kitten teeth if needed. To keep your pet safe from being lost, we offer microchipping during its first year. This is also often done during the anesthetic for spaying or neutering. Every pet in our care gets vaccinations as a part of a health checkup; the type of vaccines your pet needs will depend on your environment and its lifestyle.

As your pet grows to be an adult, we provide comprehensive wellness exams on a yearly basis. Senior pets should be seen twice a year. Our veterinarians know that pet dental exams can show clues about other diseases and conditions your pet may have. Signs of infection often show up in the gums or tongue before anywhere else, and it’s usually easier to treat these conditions while they’re still minor. Another growing problem with pets today is obesity, which is growing just as fast as the problem in the human population. We’ll weigh your pet annually, and give you nutritional and behavioral advice if your pet’s weight tips over into the dangerous obesity zone.

As your pet gets older, we’ll concentrate more on senior pet care. Older pets often have different nutritional needs, since they may not be able to chew or digest their former food. More serious problems such as cancer can appear later in life, and we’re prepared to offer chemotherapy to combat this illness. Your pet may slow down later in life, but our office is happy to provide advice to help you make the most of your pet’s senior years.
